On a cold afternoon in January 2008, my daughter was born. She was perfect, a true gift. Tears filled my eyes as I choked back on my inadequate words of gratitude to the amazing woman who had just given us a daughter. Because of her deep, profound love, we were a family. The journey had been long and scary but the family we gained that day in our child and her birth mother were well worth it.
Ever since that day, I've loved helping others on their adoption journey. Because of this gift I've been given, I feel compelled to do what I can to aid those who are in the same situation I was in, trying to figure out which photos to use on a profile, finding the words to say in "Dear Expectant Parent" letters and struggling with my own feelings of inadequacy as I felt the loss of a biological pregnancy and experience. No positive pregnancy test. No growing belly. No maternity photos. No "perfect" birth.
Instead I found a world of hope, faith and joy. Along the way, I saw the points where pictures would have been wonderful; photos to be used for profiles, pass-along cards and web pages. Birth stories and those precious first moments of the cherished child's arrival and meeting all the people in the world who love them more than words can express.
